After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing in the Indus Valley along the Indus River. Visit some of Ladakh’s most famous monasteries and landmarks, including Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery. In the evening, explore the lively Leh Market, where you can browse local handicrafts, souvenirs, traditional products, and trekking and adventure shops. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast, drive to Likir Village, approximately 58 km from Leh. Visit the historic Likir Monastery, believed to have been founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in its present form in the 15th century. Located on a hill overlooking the valley, the monastery is known for its impressive Buddhist statues, ancient thangkas, murals, and traditional artwork.
After visiting the monastery, drive to the starting point of the trek, where you will meet your trekking team and begin the walk.
The trail takes you through the scenic Ladakh landscape, crossing Phobe La (3,500 m) and passing through Sumdo Village. Continue walking uphill to cross Chagatse La Pass (3,620 m) before descending towards Yangthang Village (3,625 m).
Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and traditional village landscapes before settling into your camp for the night.
After breakfast, take a day trip to visit Rizong Monastery, one of the most unique and peaceful monasteries in the Sham Valley. Founded by Lama Tsultim Nima, the monastery is surrounded by mountains and is known for its simple lifestyle and strict monastic traditions.
Rizong Monastery follows the tradition of a common kitchen, where the monks share meals and follow a disciplined way of life. Lama Tsultim Nima also established rules for the monks based on the Vinaya tradition. These rules emphasize discipline, simplicity, and giving up material comforts and possessions.
The monastery features paintings and artworks depicting the life and teachings of its founder. It is also associated with two incarnate lamas and preserves important Buddhist scriptures and religious texts.
Rizong Monastery also oversees the Julichhen Nunnery, located approximately 2 km away. The nunnery is home to around 26 nuns who follow the Buddhist tradition and contribute to the daily activities of the monastery.
After visiting Rizong Monastery, return to Yangthang for an overnight camp.
This is an easy trail that leads northwards, crossing a stream and ascending to the Tsermangchen La Pass. From the pass, trek downhill towards Hemis Shukpachen, a beautiful village named after the grove of cedar trees found here, which is quite unusual for the Ladakh region. Overnight stay at a camp.
Today’s trek begins with an easy walk between two hillocks before a steep ascent to Mebtak La Pass, marked by colourful prayer flags. From the pass, descend through a scenic gorge and continue towards the charming village of Ang, where you will camp overnight.
After breakfast, enjoy an easy trek to the main road at Temisgam, one of the historic villages of Ladakh. From Temisgam, drive towards Leh with a detour across the Indus River to visit the 11th-century Alchi Monastery, renowned for its ancient murals, frescoes, sculptures, and traditional architecture. After the visit, continue your drive to Leh.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day exploring Leh. Visit the historic Leh Palace, Sankar Gompa, and the beautiful Shanti Stupa. Later, take some time to explore the local Leh Market and experience the atmosphere of the city. Overnight stay at the hotel.
